1100 people gathered at the Bovard Auditorium in the USC Campus in Los Angeles on February 21 for 3rd Annual Sufi Celebration. The theme of this evening was Revelations of the Illuminated Heart. The program provided a glimpse into Sufism and the significance of the heart. Sufism teaches that the source of life resides in the heart. That point of centrality that is the seat of that which we call "I", which is ultimately the commander of the body and spirit. The night's features explored the manifestations of an illumined heart. Molana Shah Maghsoud Sadegh Angha, 41st master of the M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi®, School of Islamic Sufism has stated in the book Message from the Soul "Gather all your energies and concentrate them on the source of life in your heart for your findings to become imperishable, so that you will live in balance and tranquility and know eternity."
An audience favorite, Sufism and the Heart, included a presentation of the electromagnetic centers of the heart, and described the stages of the development of the heart in an embryo. This fascinating segment was accompanied by visually stunning animations and images, and left a great impression on audience members.
Other features of the night included a rousing Daf performance by the 9 member Southern California MTO Daf Group, an exciting short film on Islamic Art and its mathematical implications, demonstrations of Movazaneh, and the signature feature of Sufi Association® Celebrations - four energizing, moving Zikr chanting performances. Sitting in two concentric circles, the group members moved in the shape of infinity, beautifully swaying in unity. The night culminated with a gourmet feast outside the auditorium amid the celebratory atmosphere.
