The Southern California Pre-Parliament event hosted by The Southern California Committee for a Parliament of the World Religions (SCCPWR) at the Soka Gakkai International (SGI) Buddhist World Peace Ikeda Auditorium took place on April 19th, 2009. The opening ceremony included a procession of faiths, prayers, and three youth speakers, one of them an M.T.O. member, telling the audience what they hope to get out of the program, a speech by the keynote speaker, and a presentation on the Parliament gathering event in Melbourne, Australia this December.
After the opening, the youth which included the M.T.O. Sufi Association members had their own opening ceremony which included a zikr by the M.T.O. Sufi Association zikr music choir. The youth broke off into smaller groups where they attended different workshops on the following topics: “What My Faith Means to Me and why” and “Overcoming Stereotypes”, “Religion and Peer Pressure”, “Weaving Interfaithful Lives Together”, and “Spiritual Wisdom for an Ecological Age”. The youth portion of the program ended with a zikr by the M.T.O. Sufi Association which said “elahy man ra on deh keh man ra on beh” (Oh God grant me thy blessing sublime!)
