On April 25, 2009 the MTO Sufi Association sponsored the 13th Annual Sufi Psychology at UC Berkeley, entitled, “The Brain, the Heart and the Soul.” The audience had an opportunity to hear from a variety of professionals such as a neuroscientist, psychologists, a cardiologist, and others from within the MTO community presenting information on the latest research related to their respective fields and its pertinence to the centrality of heart in Sufi teachings and principles. Topics discussed included:
- Addiction, Habit Formation: “Breaking the Rules”
- Tamarkoz: Uniting the Mind, Heart, and Soul, a Sufi Perspective on Spirituality and Therapy
- Brain, Heart and Soul: Overview and Inner View
- The Power of the Heart.
The audience members had a chance to practice a variety of awareness techniques and Tamarkoz (Sufi Mediation) tools aimed at gaining insight into the teachings of Sufism.
