Every year, International House at UC Berkeley California, celebrates different countries from around the world as the country of focus. This year, International House at UC Berkeley California, celebrated the Culture of Focus sponsored by MTO Shahmaghsoudi School of Sufism. Nearly 30 Ambassadors from around the globe or their representatives had participated in this year’s Festival of Cultures which was a record number since three years ago.
At the opening ceremony, after Dr. Liliane Koziol briefly explained the purpose of the festival, she introduced MTO School of Sufism as the culture of focus. MTO presentation began with a description about Sufism as a path to self-knowledge and a way of life, and its influence on cultures, literature, architecture and art. Immediately after this presentation MTO students played a wonderful Daf piece followed by inspiring Zikr performances. MTO performances continued throughout the day and were received warmly by the audiences.
MTO booths and tables were visited by hundreds of people who were awed by the beautifully designed Haftseen table and its spiritual meaning, Persian/Sufi Arts and Crafts, MTO publications, and information on Tamarkoz (Sufi Mediation). Many other visitors experienced the MTO Holistic Health Services and enjoyed Gourmet Persian lunch while getting information on various MTO centers, events and upcoming programs.
